Alexander Saharov was born in Leningrad in 1963. He's one of several rising stars from the ranks of Eastern European artisans. He completed his studies to become a doctor but abandoned the profession to devote his full time to his first love, pipe making. His work is truly beautiful, demonstrating not only fine craftsmanship and design but also an appreciation of the importance pipe engineering. The draw is open and the funneled tenon is cut so as to minimize any gap at the base of the mortise. His briar is from Corsica or Algeria and the stem is handcut with a Delrin tenon for ease of insertion and break resistance. So you can see another example of his work, I've included pictures of another of his pipes on this page.
