Tao and Poul Ilsted founded the Svendborg brand in 1970.  In 1981 he
left Svendborg and began to make his own line of high grade pipes.
He's not well known in the U.S. since his pipes are not actively
marketed here but he's recognized as being among the top Danish
makers.  He's known for solid pipes that are utilitarian yet
beautifully made.

This partially bent ball is a good example, with its thick walls and a
stout stem.  At the same time, it's a beautfilly executed cross grain
with his trademark, thick Sterling band and handcut cumberland stem.
Taos don't often find their way to the estate market.  His new pieces
sell in the $850 and up range.
