When Dunhill bought Charatan in the 1970's at the end of the Lane Era, it delivered the final insult to its sworn enemy and competitor of 60 years. All nomenclature of all completed Charatan pipes that came with the deal were obliterated. This is NOT a Charatan second. The XX's are stamped so densely that I am unable to discern what the underlying grade stamp is. The stem is a Double Comfort, heavily buffed but without tooth marks. There is darkening at the rim and minor signs of use on the bowl but no dings. It's an attractive, somewhat unusual shape.
