Andreas Bauer started making meerschaum pipes at the very beginning of the last century. For many years Austria was the hotbed of meerschaum production. The company still produces high quality block meerschaums today This lovely figural has hardly been smoked. Everything is in great shape except the case which is a bit ragged. (See photos) There are no issues with the pipe. The meerschaum is nicely polished and the carving is finely done. Stem is an acrylic and the stem/shank fitting is of the Delrin, non-screw type. The underside of the bit is stamped “Austria.”
