This pipe was a bit of a mystery for me. Stamping on the left is “Larsen” over “Copenhagen.” At the joint is the usual “Straight Grain” and just above that is what could be a “2” or a “9.” I discussed the pipe at length with a well known Larsen collector and learned several things. Apparently, before adopting the 1-10 grading system for Straight Grains, Larsen used a 1-3 grading. My friend also advised that this was almost certainly made by Sven Knudsen based on the style of the stem.
As a postscript to the above, a Larsen with the same shape and by Sven Knudsen sold by another well known Larsen collector on ebay in April 2016 for $578.
The pipe is in wonderful condition with no issues. I can see a couple tiny blemishes on the finish, The stem is free of tooth marks. It sits nicely.
