From the side, this looks like a fairly typical Dublin shape.  Scroll down to see the fluting at the back of the bowl which makes it so recognizable as a Charatan.  The Distinction grade was just below Executive.  Stem is original with CP logo and Reg. No. stamp intact.  There is a large “X” in the left side nomenclature.  The “X” does not connote that the pipe was a reject.  I’ve heard two explanations for the stamp.  First, is that it designated a pipe given as a warranty replacement.  Second, that it was stamped in lieu of completely ex-ing out the nomenclature after Dunhill bought Charatan from Herman Lane’s widow and was selling the stock that came with the purchase.  The finish is free of dings.  There are a couple of small tooth pecks on the stem bottom.  The stem top is fine with no waves - the photo below shows reflections and not a wavy stem
